2022 Alumni Rendezvous Highlights

The 2nd annual ROTC Alumni Rendezvous was a tremendous success! Over 125 Army ROTC Ram Battalion and Air Force ROTC Detachment 90 alumni reconnected during CSU’s Military Appreciation Week.

Alumni attendance increased four times since the first ROTC Rendezvous in 2021. Det90 and Ram Battalion grads ranged from ’57 to ’22. The open house at the Military Science complex where “it hasn’t changed a lick” was routinely heard, kicked off the festivities. Alumni then attended a reception hosted by the Alumni Association followed by an on-field ceremony at Canvas Stadium for the arrival of the Bronze Boot Ball Run and induction of the first members of our ROTC “Stalwart Hall of Fame,” MG (Ret.) Robert Halverson ‘63 and Col Sheldon Godkin PAS ’79-83.

CSU pulled out all the stops for Military, Veteran, and ROTC recognition during this year’s Military Appreciation game. Veteran Services and the Alumni Association hosted a joint ROTC Alumni, Student Veteran tailgate that was attended by more than 200 complete with BBQ and beverages. CSU Athletics orchestrated ROTC alumni game recognition multiple times: invited to stand behind the team as they took the field, the ROTC Alumni Advancement Council was the honorary color guard, and alums were called out by seating section in addition to the other Veterans in attendance. 4ID display team was also recognized on field (M777, Stryker, JLTV, UH-60, and AH-64 with pregame fly over).

The CSU President’s guest of honor was COL (Ret.) Mike Matthies (Honorary Cannoneer) who served as an APMS at CSU from ’85-88. MG (Ret.) Halverson ’63 was the Alumni Association’s guest of honor and rang the “Old Main Bell” at the stadium, officially ending the tailgate.

Many alumni in attendance talked of making the ROTC Alumni Rendezvous weekend part of their annual tradition, and planning their own class reunions to coincide.

Rendezvous 2021 Highlights

CSU ROTC alumni and current cadets gathered in front of the historic Military Science and Annex buildings for an evening of celebration at the first ROTC Alumni Rendezvous. Alumni were shown the new Army Combat Fitness Test, demonstrated by the CSU Army ROTC Ram Battalion, and then moved to the back lawn for a drill and ceremony performance by the Air Force ROTC Detachment 90.

Following the demonstrations, alumni had the chance to try out their sharpshooter capabilities on the smokeless range inside the Annex. Refreshments, appetizers, and good stories were served throughout the evening while cadets had the chance to thank their scholarship donors personally for their generous contributions. The inaugural Rendezvous event inspired what is now a much anticipated annual CSU ROTC alumni tradition!
